Reaching out with Compassion to the Crucified of Today
The Passionists in India - a family of priests, brothers, and laity living in community to preach God's unfathomable love revealed on the Cross since 1981.
Over 44 years of ministry in India
Called to Keep Alive the Memory of the Passion
We are a religious congregation dedicated to preaching and teaching God's love through the Cross of Christ, serving the poorest and most marginalized in Indian society.
Our Journey in India
In 1981, at the urging of St. Mother Teresa, the first Passionist missionaries arrived in Cochin, Kerala. Frs. Walter Kaelin and Philip Smith established our first community, Ashram J.X.P., blessed on May 27, 1981.
Over four decades, we have grown from a single community to the St. Thomas Vice-Province, serving across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, and Madhya Pradesh through parishes, schools, retreat centers, and formation houses.
Today, we continue St. Paul of the Cross's mission, reaching out with compassion to those who suffer, keeping alive the memory of Christ's Passion through community life, prayer, and service to the crucified ones of our time.

Our Mission & Passionist Spirituality
Rooted in 250 years of Cross-centered spirituality, we seek to heal and be healed by the power of the Cross.
